OIM Race Report
Phew – I survived the marathon. It wasn’t as bad as I had imagined thank goodness! Before I launch into my race report I must thank many people. First thanks to Clark and my family for the motivation and inspiration, not to mention putting up with me running when I should have been cleaning! Michelle and Zack called from work to wish me luck - thanks for remembering! Thanks to Lori and Mark for being out on the course cheering, it’s always nice to see familiar faces. Sharon compaq hp DG103A battery was great start line company, and Alisa reminded me to dig deep. I also had a nice chat with Jim (who was on his bike) with only about 4 km to go, and even used what little breath I had left to say hi to Gillian Kornell with about 2.5 km to go. Congratulations to Brett and Fred who qualified for the Boston Marathon. Sounded to me like Steve and Pam had a great half marathon (sub 1:50 and 2 hours – wow!!). Looks like Joe did well (and I hear he even pulled Suki along for a while) – congratulations to Krista on her first half marathon too! Apparently Mike Delorme lit compaq hp DG103A battery the course up as well! Clark had a great time - 1:42 and change with no training in the last 2 weeks, and very little running even within the last month. He had some more IT band trouble around the 18 km mark and slugged through it knowing that he would pay later (i.e. today!!). Suki was on a smokin’ 1:45 pace until she started to cramp, I think it was aound the 12 km mark, but I could be wrong. After that she had alternate shuffling along (apparently she tried various techniques to try to avoid the cramps) with stopping to stretch. I saw her when she had about compaq hp DG103A battery 600m left to go, and she didn’t look like she was enjoying herself too much. She ended up with a best time by 4 minutes, but was disappointed because she knew she could go faster – next time Suk! My parents were very impressive. Dad was half dead with a cold (we didn’t know if he was going to run even) and mom was just a bag of nerves (although she did go on and on about meeting John Stanton), but they came through in 2:30:58, pretty much right compaq hp DG103A battery on the goal time! Still can’t believe that neither had done any running until mom got inspired after watching us run the OIM half marathon last year…a year later and here they both are – way to go!!! Dad even took his digital camera and got some photos out on the course – even one of me going past them! Mom proudly wore her medal all night, and of course enjoyed the race wine!
